Like most women will be to some degree or another, sooner or later I was assaulted. I was jogging in a park in full daylight when a man twice my size jumped out of the bushes pushed me a crossed the path into to woods on the other side.

What I learned from this experience is that the Martial Arts based women’s self defense techniquics that I learn from a $600 class was just about useless in this real world situation.

It’s a nice thought to be able to break an attackers grip flip him to the ground and kick him all in one smooth motion. It really is not as easy as it looks in the slow motion tapes that you see on martial arts commercials.

I not saying not to take self defense classes, I just worry that they may give you a false since of security.

Well any way, I became obsessed about women’s self defense techniques. I was not going to be raped! I knew there had to be ways for a 110 pound woman to fight of a 200 pound plus attacker that would actually work for me. I spent over year interviewing people and researching the subject. (I am studying to be a journalist anyway)

The women’s self defense technique’s that I advocate, that may be better for most, are about prevention and escaping from an attacker. Don’t be a fool and think you are going to fight and win against man twice your size.

I don’t plan on trying to fight my next attacker. To me it just doesn’t make since; I plan to fight long enough to escape. The best defense is to infict pain to escape an attacker, and live.

My Women’s self defense techniques…… Inflict pain, threaten his eyes and run. (Staying to fight just dosn’t make sinse.)

Fleeing an attacker is an art in itself, which I will cover in a second, but first we need to get away fro him first. The best way do this by inflicting pain or threatening their eyes.

Let’s talk about inflicting pain first. The easiest way to do this is by using a weapon. That’s right lets arm ourselves, but I am not talking about handguns or knifes.

Here are a few weapons you could use.

  • Your car keys held between your fingers
  • A pen or pencil
  • A can or bottle of soda
  • A stick, cane, or umbrella.
  • A rock from the ground
  • Hair spray
  • An ash tray

Then there are non lethal weapons you could purchase such as….

  • Stun guns
  • Pepper spray.

Then of course there is always you’re….

  • Knee
  • Finger Nails
  • Your forehead or back of your head. (very painful to the mouth or nose of an attacker)
  • The palm of your hand. ( Much better than your fists)
  • The heal of your shoe. Hurts like hell on the top of the foot of a would be attacker.

Sharp weapons such as a pen or car keys should be used against the soft parts of the body; between the ribs the stomach the neck.

Hard weapons such as a can of soda or a rock should be use against the hard parts of the body such as the nose, mouth, collar bones, and ribs.

You threaten there eyes with sharp weapons or sprays; fingernails, hair spray, pepper spray etc…

What about the kick to the groin?

A knee to the groin maybe, but not a kick for two reasons. The first, I believe the key to preventing your rape is by fleeing. Kicking is probably the most harmfull  of all women’s self defense techniques tuaght by most.

If you are far enough away from your attacker to kick him he is not keeping you from running. Furthermore; unless you are a very experienced professional fighter you will broadcast your moves with your facial expressions.

Your attacker will see that you are about to punch or kick, from your facial expressions. When you are punching or kicking you sacrifice a little balance, which attacker will use to his advantage to subdue you.

Please no emails about how displeased you are about my women’s self defense techniques. Fight a person twice your size if you want but that’s not in my opinion, a wise method of self defense.

You’re free now what?

You run! You call for help. Yell Fire! No mistake; I said yell fire! It has been suggested by many that I interviewed, the best thing to yell to summons help is fire. The reason being that many most people will not come to the aid of some one yelling help, or rape. Every one will come to see a fire. This sounds reasonable so I included it in my flee to avoid rape plan.

Your assailant doesn’t want to call attention to him self so he is not likely to chase you down, especially if you are yelling fire. If he does here is what you can do to avoid him.

If you are unable to outrun your assailant, you can do the ring around the rosy trick that kids do when they are playing tag. That is to say you place your self on the opposite side of a car, a mail box, or a tree. You see him coming and go the other way around the object to stay away. Keep yelling fire!

You can also climb under a car. You will see where he is and simply shimmy to the other side. Should he grab a hold of you there are plenty of things to grab hold of under a car.

What if he has a gun?

This is a tough question, not sure how I would react but I won’t anyone use a gun to move me to another location.

There is always a chance that following your rape will be your murder. If an assailant intends to force me into his car or drive my car to another location at gunpoint, I plan to take my chances and run.

Fight stab kick to prevent yourself from being sexually assaulted. Fight twice as hard from being moved to a secondary crime scene. If your assailant means to move you it will be to some place were you won’t get any help.

If you are forced into a car and moved your chance of survival will decrease by 100 fold. Let yourself be moved you stand a good chance of being killed. The most important of my women’s self defense techniques is fight twice as hard before you are abducted.

I like stun guns and don’t leave home with mine,ever!

Stun guns are a device that passes massive amounts of electrical into a body from tiny little probes. My favorite women’s self defense technique is to shock his sorry self with my little pink stun gun until he wets his pants and cries like a baby.

A slight tap with a stun gun on an attacker’s body causes severe pain. Hold it against him for a few seconds and it will leave him completely incapacitated. (Your chance to kick him in the ribs like the martial arts self defense videos that you see)

Like any weapon don’t use it to threaten an attacker. He will probably just disarm you with his longer reach. If he doesn’t have a hold of you, run and yell fire.

If he dose have a hold of you let him have it. Hold it on him as long as you can. He will let go of you that I promise. If you can, grab a hold of him with the other hand, so you can really hold the stun gun to his body few a few seconds.

To summarize my women’s self defense techniques, inflict pain, threaten your attacker’s eyesight, escape and yell fire.

Don’t over-estimate your ability to fight. If you have a chance to get away, take it don’t stay for revenge!

If any of these women’s defense techniques that I talk about sound violent, that’s because they are.  They’re supposed to be.

When it comes to protecting your life, you must be willing to do anything you have to in order to stay alive.  The harm you are able to do to a rapist, is nothing compared to what he plans to do to you.

Your best personal defense strategy is to run if you can, If you must  directly attack your assailant, there are no rules. Gouge his eyes, crush his wind pipe, or jam a pencil through his ribs. If there’s a rock near by, hit him with it. If there’s a stick or branch, club him with it. Make as much noise as you can. Self defense equipment is all around you, if it’s sharp or heavy it’s a potential weapon.

It takes courage to hurt another person.  Just keep in your mind the reality, that it’s a “him or you” choice.  You can hurt him or he will hurt you.
